More Faith

Monday of the Thirty-Second Week in Ordinary Time

Read this Gospel passage aloud to the family

Luke 17:1-6 Jesus said to his disciples, "Things that cause sin will inevitably occur, but woe to the one through whom they occur. It would be better for him if a millstone were put around his neck and he be thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he wrongs you seven times in one day and returns to you seven times saying, 'I am sorry,' you should forgive him." And the Apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith." The Lord replied, "If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you."

“Lord, increase our faith.”

(Parent) Read this meditation aloud to the family

After the apostles hear the Lord talk about temptation, sin, and forgiveness, they say, “…increase our faith.”  Have you ever heard the phrase, “forgiveness is divine”?  Though it’s not biblical, it does reveal something very important; forgiveness might just be too big for us.  We need the Lord’s help.

Through the Sacraments, God gives us grace so that He can do in us what we cannot do alone.  The Sacrament of Marriage provides couples with enough grace to forgive one another.  The whole family can receive the grace to forgive (even when we don’t want to) through the Eucharist and Confession.  Whom do we need to forgive?  Let’s ask for God’s help to do so.

As a family, pray a portion of the Rosary together (very short if children are young) reflecting on the Scripture passage above.(Optional: allow a brief time for discussion or questions from children concerning their thoughts and prayer.)

Reminder for Parents: Pier is just meant to be a jumping off point. The real goal is that you pray & eventually use the fruits of your personal prayer as the content of your family’s prayer. Duc in altum.
