Make For Peace
Thursday of the Thirty-Third Week in Ordinary Time
Read this Gospel passage aloud to the family
Luke 19:41-44- As Jesus drew near Jerusalem, he saw the city and wept over it, saying, "If this day you only knew what makes for peace-- but now it is hidden from your eyes. For the days are coming upon you when your enemies will raise a palisade against you; they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides. They will smash you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another within you because you did not recognize the time of your visitation."

Jesus is approaching Jerusalem to die. Jerusalem was meant to be the place where God dwelled with His people. But the people rejected their God who sought to live in their midst. So, as Jesus approaches the city, He weeps. He weeps because their rejection of Him seals their fate: “…your enemies…will smash you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another within you because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
To miss Jesus Christ is to miss everything. We have to invite Him in. Where are we missing Jesus? Is He missing from our social lives? Is He missing from our conversations? Is He missing from our plans for the future? Is He missing from our work or school? Is He missing from our weekends or entertainment? Is He missing from our daily schedules? Is Jesus missing from our hearts and our lives, or is He dwelling in our midst? “If this day you only knew what makes for peace…”
As a family, pray a portion of the Rosary together (very short if children are young) reflecting on the Scripture passage above.(Optional: allow a brief time for discussion or questions from children concerning their thoughts and prayer.)
