Friday of the Third Week of Advent

Read this Gospel passage aloud to the family

Luke 1:46-56- Mary said:
"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For he has looked upon his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
and has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever.”

Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months and then returned to her home.

(Parent)  Reread this part a few times aloud

“From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is His Name.”

(Parent)  Read this meditation aloud to the family

The Almighty indeed has done great things for Mary, and He wishes to do great things for us through Mary.  Jesus Christ is the source of all grace (God’s help and God’s life) for mankind.  Jesus is given to mankind through Mary.  She is not the source of grace for us, but she is the channel of grace for us.   She brought Christ to the world, and she continues to do so now.  This is the will of God.

We must draw very close to Mary.  She is our spiritual Mother and our help.  Mary loves us more than any other human being (other than Christ) ever can.  Like any wonderful mother she wishes to see her children happy.  Mary wishes to see us happy.  She brought Christ to us.  She will bring us to Christ.  Like helpless babies we need to rely on Mary our Mother for everything.  Let us spend a little extra time praying our portion of the Rosary tonight, while focusing on our glorious Mother.

As a family, pray a portion of the Rosary together (very short if children are young) reflecting on the Scripture passage above. (Optional: allow a brief time for discussion or questions from children concerning their thoughts and prayer.)

Reminder for Parents: Pier is just meant to be a jumping off point. The real goal is that you pray & eventually use the fruits of your personal prayer as the content of your family’s prayer. Duc in altum.
