Lost His Mind

Saturday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time

Read this Gospel passage aloud to the family

Mark 3:20-21 Jesus came with his disciples into the house. Again the crowd gathered, making it impossible for them even to eat. When his relatives heard of this they set out to seize him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

(Parent)  Reread this part a few times aloud

Oh boy, relatives!  Just like so many people today, Jesus also had relatives who didn’t understand Christianity.  They thought that He had gone too far, that He was too religious, that He was “out of His mind.”  Have we heard our relatives say any of these things about serious Catholics before?

We shouldn’t be surprised—and we definitely can’t be deterred by—relatives and family members (even Catholic ones) who don’t understand the importance of living a genuine Catholic life.  If we are truly living a Catholic life, we will have opposition; others will say we’ve gone too far.  In truth it is they who don’t understand reality.  Show them much love.  Christianity will cost everything, including some tranquility between family members.  If this happens: don’t resent them, don’t be too surprised, and definitely don’t be deterred.  You are sharing this suffering with Christ!

As a family, pray a portion of the Rosary together (very short if children are young) reflecting on the Scripture passage above. (Optional: allow a brief time for discussion or questions from children concerning their thoughts and prayer.)

Reminder for Parents: Pier is just meant to be a jumping off point. The real goal is that you pray & eventually use the fruits of your personal prayer as the content of your family’s prayer. Duc in altum.
