Lord of Heaven

Wednesday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Read this Gospel passage aloud to the family

Matthew 11:25-27- At that time Jesus exclaimed:  “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.  Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father.  No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”

(Parent) Reread this part a few times aloud

“You have revealed them to the childlike.”

(Parent) Read this meditation aloud to the family

There is often a distinction made between “the child-like and the child-ish.”  Of course God doesn’t want adults going around acting like children—acting child-ish.  Instead, God reveals things to the child-like.  When the Gospel speaks of God revealing things, it means that He is showing people something that might not be obvious at first.  The childlike in the Gospel, then, are those who see with eyes of faith.

Consider how a child believes that God can do anything.  Consider how a child believes that God will do what He says.  Now consider how many doubts most adults have.  Which perspective is right?  The child’s!  God can do anything, and God will do what He says.  So having faith in God like a child does—this is how God wants us to believe.  This is the condition for seeing what God wants to reveal to us.  God is our loving all-powerful Father, we must learn (like children) to trust in Him simply and limitlessly.

As a family, pray a portion of the Rosary together (very short if children are young) reflecting on the Scripture passage above. (Optional: allow a brief time for discussion or questions from children concerning their thoughts and prayer.)

Reminder for Parents: Pier is just meant to be a jumping off point. The real goal is that you pray & eventually use the fruits of your personal prayer as the content of your family’s prayer. Duc in altum.
