Saturday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time
Read this Gospel passage aloud to the family
Mark 10:13-16 – People were bringing children to Jesus that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the Kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.” Then he embraced the children and blessed them, placing his hands on them.
(Parent) Reread this part a few times aloud

We have all probably heard the saying that “the Lord wants us to be child-like, not child-ish.” Consider how a child accepts the Kingdom of God. They accept it simply. They believe that what God says in the Scriptures is true. They believe that God knows them and loves them. They believe that God is all-powerful and can do anything. They believe that God will give them all the resources, help, and comfort they need. They don’t complicate what they know of good and evil. And they are right. Children simply take God at His word.
When children take God at His word, they are called children. When adults take God at His word, they are called saints. Our faith shouldn’t become more complicated the more we know it. Our faith should become more simple. In prayer, beg God to make our faith more simple, then it will be more profound, more free, more real.
As a family, pray a portion of the Rosary together (very short if children are young) reflecting on the Scripture passage above. (Optional: allow a brief time for discussion or questions from children concerning their thoughts and prayer.)
