Your Apron

Tuesday of the Thirty-Second Week in Ordinary Time

Read this Gospel passage aloud to the family

Luke 17:7-10- Jesus said to the Apostles: “Who among you would say to your servant who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here immediately and take your place at table’? Would he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished’? Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded? So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’”

(Parent) Reread this part a few times aloud

“We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.”

(Parent) Read this meditation aloud to the family

Having the virtue of justice means that we are ready to give someone what they rightly deserve.  Parents deserve respect from their children.  Human life deserves to be protected.  A worker deserves just wages.   Above all, the all-perfect God deserves perfect obedience, worship, and love.

Are we being just toward God?  Are we giving Him the time He deserves daily from us?  Are we giving Him the witness He deserves from us among friends and co-workers?  Are we giving Him the attention He deserves at Mass and on Sundays?  Are we giving Him the money He deserves?  Are we giving Him the obedience He deserves?  Are we giving Him our whole lives?  We are obliged, in justice, to give Him all that He deserves.

As a family, pray a portion of the Rosary together (very short if children are young) reflecting on the Scripture passage above. (Optional: allow a brief time for discussion or questions from children concerning their thoughts and prayer.)
